How it works

  1. Fleet MPG = total miles (all jurisdictions) ÷ total gallons (all fuel bought).
  2. Taxable gallons per state = taxable miles ÷ fleet MPG.
  3. Net taxable gallons = taxable gallons − tax-paid gallons you bought in that state.
  4. Net tax = net taxable gallons × the state's rate. Negative = credit.
  5. Kentucky and Virginia also charge a surcharge on taxable gallons with no credit for fuel bought there — the tool adds those lines automatically.

FAQ

Which quarter is this? Q4 2026 (October–December). Rates are refreshed each quarter from iftach.org.

Why is Oregon $0? Oregon taxes heavy trucks through its weight-mile tax, not IFTA fuel tax. Still report Oregon miles so your MPG is right.

Why is Alberta $0? Alberta suspended fuel tax Oct 1 – Dec 31, 2026. You still report Alberta miles and fuel.

Are Canadian rates converted? Yes — rates shown are the IFTA matrix's U.S. $/gallon figures (exchange rate 1.4023). Enter miles and U.S. gallons.

Do you file for me? No. We don't file returns or give tax advice. File with your base jurisdiction.

Is my data saved? Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent anywhere.
